Rap publication XXL has revealed its “Freshman Class” for 2019, a selection of 11 up-and-coming rappers viewed as having high potential to take their careers to the next level.
This year the class includes three women: Houston-born Megan the Stallion, Maryland’s Rico Nasty and Philadelphia’s own Tierra Whack. While XXL has included women among its selections over the years this is the first year since the list was started in 2007 that it boasts three women.
Iggy Azalea was the first to make the cut in 2012 and three years later, the “Freshman Class” featured two women, Dej Loaf and Tink.
Additional artists in the 2019 class include Comethazine, DaBaby, Lil Mosey, Roddy Ricch, YBN Cordae, YK Osiris, Gunna and the fan-selected Blueface.
