Los Angeles-based Fashion Nova is at it again, this time ripping off two designs from Kim Shui that appear to be carbon copies of the originals. As it often does, Fashion Nova copied and pasted two dresses worn by Kyle Jenner, who posted images of herself wearing both dresses on Instagram.
In a statement provided to Fashionista, the New York-based Shui said, ” We recently had Kylie wear two of our dresses and an exact copy was made via Fashion Nova. I found these pieces because several people DMed me on Instagram showing me the looks.”
Of the two dresses, the tie dye dress was probably especially attractive to Fashion Nova because it received a huge number of reposts thanks to the inclusion of Jenner’s daughter Stormi, who worn a mini version of the dress custom-made by Shui. Showing zero shame, Fashion Nova even copied the gloves that were included with the original design. One has to assume the only thing stopping Fashion Nova from copying Stormi’s dress is that it doesn’t carry children’s clothing.
Copies of Shui’s dresses were sold on Fashion Nova for $39.99 each. The tie dye dress is now sold out. Shui’s tie-dye dress is priced at $295 and the ruched faux-leather, stretch dress is $260. Both designs are available on Shui’s store.
Reflecting more empathy than Fashion Nova deserves, Shui added, “I understand that pieces can be inspired. I felt that they could have at least changed the color or gloves somehow, but when the dress is an exact copy, it has an impact on an independent business like ours.”
