Singer/songwriter Kehlani has released “Everybody Business,” a new r&b track and visual examining the chatter we presume arose from her relationship with rapper YG (real name Keenon Jackson), who it appears she’s no longer dating.
The visual opens with a conversation between unknown individuals taking on the enduring debate over what level of privacy a celebrity deserves when s/he’s in a public relationship. Directed by Kehlani and shot in her backyard, the video is peppered with tweets and other social media posts analyzing Kehlani’s love life.
Breaking down the origins of the song on Instagram, Kehlani wrote, “I remember saying the first line and all of us knowing it was going to be one of the ones. The way we all laughed, got silent, nodded our heads, walked around in circles. When I was nervous to sing the hook out loud because I didn’t know if they would think I was hilarious for flipping Pharrell’s ‘Frontin’ in a guitar ballad. All the walking around and shutting doors that we kept in the beginning of the record for the ‘ambiance’ . Will never forget it.”
