Nicki Minaj has landed her second No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 single with “Trollz,” a single with Tekashi 6ix9ine. The song marks Tekashi’s first Hot 100 No. 1 single.
The single achieved its No. 1 status largely through sales with a total of 116,000 units sold, the highest sum since since Taylor Swift‘s “Me!,” featuring Brendon Urie, posting up 193,000 sales for the May 11, 2019 chart.
Minaj joins Lauryn Hill as the only female rapper in history to debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100. Hill’s “Do Wop (That Thing)” debuted at No. 1 on Nov. 14, 1998.
Minaj reacted with glee to the news on social meda where she told her fans, “Congratulations, Barbz, y’all did this with no playlisting and no radio. And it’s just not happening in 2020. All the records on the top of the chart right are doing that with heavy playlisting and heavy radio. So for us to do that, debuting, that’s insane. I love you guys so much. We just did the highest pure sales of the year, of every song released. And you can’t buy that. That’s fan love.”
The good news follows her first number one on May 16th through a feature of Doja Cat‘s “Say So.” The song is now occupying the Hot 100 chart’s No. 4 position.
“Trollz” earns Minaj her 110th career Hot 100 entry. She passes Elvis Presley and ties #Future for the fourth-most of all time.
