Taylor Swift provided her fans with a happy surprise today with the drop of folklore, a 16-song album produced by Aaron Dessner, Jack Antonoff and Swift. Spare and quietly powerful, the project includes just one feature, the single ‘exile” with Bon Iver, an American folk band fled by singer-songwriter Justin Vernon.
Fans can get access a 17th song titled “The Lakes” through purchase of either a CD, vinyl or cassette. The CD and vinyl are each offered with eight different cover options.
In press on the album, Swift commented, “Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed. My gut telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with.”
In addition to a visual lead single “cardigan,” Swift also dropped a capsule of merch including t-shirts, sweatshirts and a cardigan sweater. Titled “flashback in a reel,” merchandise will be sold through July 25, 2020 at 11:59 PM EST on taylorswift.com.
