Rick Owens revealed an upcoming Converse sneaker collaboration with a fall 2021 menswear presentation staged on the Lido near Venice on Thursday (January 21, 2021).
Housed under Rick Owens DRKSHDW diffusion line, the back hightop version of Convers’s Chuck 70 is distinguished by an extended, square-shaped toe box, a shape that is all the rage these days.
Referencing a DRKSHDW designed inspired by the Chuck 70 Owens noted, “Years ago, I did my own dumber and louder version of these sneakers and this season Converse agreed to craft my crude version onto their original and mutate their signature toe cap. The tongue is extended and the label and license plates are altered to reflect the DRKSHDW collaboration.
Perhaps indicating a pre-election mindset, the Rick Owens collection was titled “GETHSEMANE,” defined by the label as “the garden Jesus prayed in the night before the crucifixion; a place uneasy repose and disquiet before a final reckoning. We’re all living in a tense period in history waiting for a revolution, be it catastrophic or rational, in a suspence that feels almost biblical in its drama, primitive and profane.”
