Illustration and comic platform Urbanime has revealed a project celebrating Nike‘s annual Air Max Day on March 26th with a collection of illustrated portraits titled “Style EP.” Drawn by Julie Anderson, the effort is highlighted by portrayals of Walk Like Her founder Tira Audrey, stylist Khalilah Beavers and Urbanime superhero Codex.
Anderson collaborated with Audrey who selected the sneakers worn by each character while Beavers styled the outfits placing an emphasis on selecting Black women-owned brands.
Commenting on the effort on Instagram, Beavers, who has styled NBA players Carmelo Anthony and Jimmy Butler, wrote, “I’m a huge shoe lover. I can envision how to pair them with any outfit and how I will wear them.”
“The last few years, especially with new collabs, sneakers are just as much a staple as any shoe. The industry has grown. Its creativity is super wild. You can find sneakers that go with everything and while you can have on anything, if you have on the latest drop of a hard-to-get sneaker, you’re IT!”
In the illustrations Audrey sports a pair of Nike and Atmos Air Max 1 sneakers, Beavers wears Nike’s Air Max 95 kicks in the shoe’s original neon colorway and super heroine Codex shows out in Nike and Sean Wotherspoon‘s infamous Air Max 1/97 sneakers.
Brands worn by the trio include Orseund Iris, Lorraine West Jewelry, Knorts, Timbuk2, Highwavves, Vavoune, Edas, Mifland, and Brandon Blackwood, among others.
