SZA has dropped uploaded the single “I Hate You” to YouTube, a song one could describe as a well-time and needed salve for those who find holiday cheer to be nothing but depressing.
With lyrics expressing longing for an ex she still half hates and loves, “I Hate You” was first uploaded to Solana Rowe’s anonymous Soundcloud account back in August, along with two other previously unreleased cuts titled “Joni” and “Songbird.”
At the time she described the songs as “from the LAST album like 2016,” which we took to mean singles that didn’t make the cut for Ctrl, which was released in 2017.
While SZA has hinted “I Hate U” won’t be included on her untitled second album, the song jumped up on the charts, making it her first No. 1 debut on Spotify’s top 50 USA chart.
