Congrats are in order for Denim Tears designer Tremaine Emory and Andee McConnell who wed today (October 14, 2023) in a ceremony conducted at the City Clerk’s Office in Manhattan. Emory wore a double-breasted grey pinstripe suit by Marni, matched by his bride who wore a navy double-breasted blazer dress. Emory documented the event on Instagram Stories where he reposted video and photographs by some of the friends and family who attended the event. Emory’s LinkedIn profile lists her current job as Supreme though it hasn’t been confirmed she still works there.
It’s not known how long the couple were dating before they married, but in an interview with Justsmile, Emory credited McConnell for standing by him when he was struck down in October 2022 by a lower aorta aneurysm from which he’s still recovering. Reflecting on the early days of his recovery, Emory said, “The protagonist is my partner Andee. She was by my side from the moment that I got sick to this day. She saved my life just as much as the doctors.”
Still in recovery from the aneurysm, Emory’s mobility steadily has improved over the past year progressing from a wheelchair to a walker to the cane he used while navigating the stairs during his wedding ceremony.
It’s been a tumultuous period for Emory who made headlines when it was announced in August he was stepping down from his role as Supreme‘s creative director. After the news was revealed, Emory alleged he left the company because of “systemic racial issues.” He added that the company failed to inform him it had cancelled a collaboration with artist Arthur Jafa that featured images of enslaved Black Americans who had been lynched or maimed.
Emory has continued to operate his New York-base label, which recently announced a Dr. Martens shoe collaboration. He also partnered with rapper Offset on a merch and music capsule.
