Puma is bringing back its Mostro sneaker, a unique silhouette that swept the landscape when it was first introduced in 1999. Taken from the Italian word for monster, The Mostro drew inspiration from two distinct era: ‘the ’60s-era track spikes combined with the laid-back vibes of ’80s surfing shoes.
While the silhouette was originally launched featuring a leather upper, the relaunched Mostro has been updated with a mesh upper and a lycra lining.
The campaign, as shot by Chris Maggio, makes use of New York as a backdrop and pairs an edgie New Yorker named Jack with a carefree tourist named Jen who take on the City together.
The German brand teased Mostro’s reintroduction with Puma collaborator A$AP Rocky, who wore the streamlined silhouette during the launch of his Formula 1 capsule in Las Vegas in late November. The shoe was reimangined as a boot for Ottolinger‘s fall 2023 collection, and has also been spotted on Skepta.
Available in a grey or yellow colorway, the Puma Mostro will be available at selected retailers worldwide including Dover Street Market and Slam Jam, starting January 13, 2024.
