New York-based Marc Jacobs has tapped fellow native New Yorker and artist Futurthe a 2000 for a special-edition capsule collection to commemorate its 40th anniversary. Adorned with Futura’s signature splatter designs, the capsule features Marc Jacob’s The Tote Bag in multiple sizes and materials, alongside a denim trucker jacket and jeans, hoodie, sweater, long-sleeve shirt, t-shirt, accessories and more.
The collab marks the eighth drop in a year-long series where Marc Jacobs’ friends and collaborators put their own spin on the brand’s iconic designs. The collaboration is also timed with Futura’s solo show at the Bronx Museum, his largest retrospective to date, opening on September 8, 2024.
Shot by Renell Medrano, the campaign features Colombian singer J Balvin, model Paloma Elsesser, and Futura himself.
A pioneer of New York’s 1980s “Subway School” of graffiti, Futura’s influence stretches far beyond spray paint and subway trains has been merging street art with fine art for decades. He first collaborated with Marc Jacobs in 2022, on a project benefitting Free Arts NYC. Additional Futura collaborations include Comme des Garçons, Off-White, New Era and Dr. Martens.
Priced from $150 for a wallet up to $595 for a leather version of The Tote Bag and trucker jacket, Marc Jacobs and Futura 2000’s capsule launches on September 6th on marcjacobs.com and at Marc Jacobs stores, along with pop-ups in New York, London, Beijing and Japan.
