Harlem-born rap artist ASAP Rocky has had a long-standing connection with Adidas Originals vis-a-vis the brand’s partnership with Jeremy Scott that includes a 2013 collaborative winged shoe called “Black Flag.” We are hearing through multiple retail sources that Adidas is upping the relationship with plans to have the style setting rapper as the face of its media campaign for Adidas Originals Tubular for Spring 2016. An Adidas spokesperson said the brand “continues to have an ongoing positive relationship with ASAP Rocky,” though wouldn’t specifically confirm the Tubular campaign.
Adidas has already made a big fashion splash with the the Tubular platform choosing to present Spring 2016 offerings at an event (see video below) during men’s fashion week in Paris in June. Nic Galway, vice president of global design for Adidas, was the head creative for the collection and is known for his work with Stella McCartney, Yohji Yamamoto and Rick Owens, making the Tubular a good fit with ASAP aka “Pretty Flacko,” who is known for his affinity with edgy fashion labels.
