Four-season old Vetements is once again making waves, this time with news of a guest invitation to show during Paris’s haute couture fashion week in July, as announced yesterday, by Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture.
The addition to the schedule doesn’t temporarily turn Vetements into a haute couture label, a membership which is protected by law and includes a strict list of rules upheld by the French Chamber of Commerce. Rather, according to a Vetements spokesperson contacted by Vogue, “The collection will involve different elements including some Vetements interpretations of couture.”
And actually, a handful of brands are invited every year as guests, but given Vetements much-celebrated head designer, Demma Gvasalia, combined with its somewhat controversial street aesthetic is as per usual creating an above average level of waves. Other labels invited to guest during the week include J. Mendel, Yuima Nakazato and Iris van Herpen.
Certainly this news flies in the face of New Zealand singer Lorde’s declaration earlier this week that “Vetements is uncool now.”
