Swedish furniture company IKEA has partnered with Hypebeast on an instructional video (below) on how to design a room for the ultimate, well, hypebeast. It includes wall shelves to highlight sneaker faves, as well as a stacked shelf with LED lighting to cast even extra shine on one’s “grails.” There’s also a plastic plant because “you’d probably much rather wait in line that water your succulents.”
(On a side note, in this particular sneakerhead’s bedroom, Yeezy clearly has not jumped over Jumpman; Jordan is everywhere including a poster over the bed.
As it often is, the Hypebeast comment section for this story is in a bit of a shambles with one of the most popular comments reading, “Yeah, no sex with human females happens there.” In general, the consensus is that a bedroom festooned with sneakers is just another version of The 40 Year Old Virgin Andy’s apartment decorated with action figures, beloved toys he had to pack away and sell off in order to get laid and live happily ever after.
Not sure who stole from who, but a similar statement saw plenty of activity on Twitter earlier today:

We ourselves posted Chris Black’s Tweet on Instagram, and asked the question, is good sex incompatible with a stylish bedroom? Well people, we kid, because of course it is! It’s 2016, and guys of all sexual orientations have shown a greater appreciation for fashion, and cooking, and yes, as of late interior design and even clean sheets.

And if the end results is that guys are less “manly,” these changes are all signs of moving in a more positive direction. Equality, after all, doesn’t mean one side makes progress and the other stays static, it means the whole apple cart is upturned and rearranged in a way that may not be the ideal from any one individual’s perspective, but is healthier overall for everyone involved.
And on that note, while Hypebeast is known first and foremost for targeting a male demographic, there are no rules saying this room can’t be for a female sneakerhead. 🙂
