Widely popular as a woman’s designer for edgy cool designs, Stella McCartney has spread her wings and chosen to delve into the currently buzzy world of men’s fashion, revealing the inaugural collection at Abbey Road Studios in London, a location famous for the time her father spent recording there. In addition to the clothes, there were musical performances by Neneh Cherry, Mike D, D.M.C. and a debut performance by “Stella’s Supergroup,” a five-piece band fronted by Beth Ditto.
More important than all that was the clothes themselves. The look of the line very much retains the laid-back sporty cool look of her woman’s designs, but definitely takes some pages out of the more masculine look and feel of utilitarian streetwear label Gosha Rubchinskiy. All in all, it’s a very good first effort and certainly filled with pieces that have crossover appeal for women.
