Fresh off of telling a shocked and dismayed audience he would’ve voted for Trump had he voted, Kanye West moved on to Sacramento, where he opened the show with a performance of three songs, accompanied by Kid Cudi. He then began to speak to the audience, kicking things off by saying Drake and Frank Ocean were great, adding that Kid Cudi, who opened the show, was the greatest.
West went on to repeatedly curse out radio, saying “Radio, f**k you!” He then pointed out it wasn’t the fault of people working at radio, who play songs over and over because they “need to feed their kids.” West then added that Virgil Abloh, [ASAP] Nas, [ASAP] Bari, Ian Connor and [ASAP] Rocky are “alive tonight.” As part of his complaints about radio, he called out DJ Khaled and Drake’s single “For Free” as being over played.
For the biggest blockbuster of the night, West said he was told Beyoncé wouldn’t perform at MTV’s Video Music Awards if she wasn’t awarded its video of the year award for “Formation,” a meaningful request because her song was up against West’s “Famous” video and Drake’s “Hotline Bling.” He explained he was hurt by the move because “I went down seven years of my life for mother fuckers hating me for saying Beyoncé had the best video.” Later he added he was told by an MTV executive prior to the show he wouldn’t win the video of the year award. “They told me before so I wouldn’t run on stage,” explained West. He added that Beyoncé and Taylor Swift are all great people.
West also called out DJ Khaled, saying he loved him and knew he had killers in Miami and to please not send them. He added that Obama was hampered by having to be perfect and that perfection doesn’t create change. “Being perfect don’t always change things bro’,” said West.
Referencing an earlier concert speech in which West said Jay-Z hadn’t reached out to him after his wife, Kim Kardashian was robbed in Paris, West said Jay-Z still hadn’t called him. “Jay-Z, call me ‘bro, you still still haven’t called me,” said West, who added, “I know you got killers, please don’t send them at my head.”
Hillary Clinton also received a mention, with West implying that her lack of vision cost her the election. “Feelings matter, everybody in middle America felt a way and they showed you how they felt. Feelings matter, bro’, it’s a new world,” said West.
He once again asked Jay Z not to send his killers and repeated, “Let Ye be Ye.”
In connection with Clinton losing, West said people were lied to by Google and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who he once again criticized for not working with him when he was “$53 million dollars in debt.” West said Zuckerberg had committed to helping his Donda foundation, but never came through.
In perhaps the oddest call out, he shouted out Shia LaBeouf and told him, “Kid Cudi feels a way. Call him.”
He finished by speaking to Q-Tip, saying that he loved him and his new album was dope, but added that Q-Tip shouldn’t try and tell him how to behave.
Speaking of people in power afraid to change things, West said he wasn’t scared though admitted he didn’t always say things the perfect way. He finished by speaking to the press, saying, “Get ready to have a field day, press, get ready, get ready, ’cause the show is over,”
