Cited as an inspiration for the stunning live portraits shown in Solange Knowles’s “Don’t Touch My Hair” single. artist Lynette Yiadom paintings will be the subject of a solo exhibition at New York’s New Museum this spring.
Based in London and of Ghanian descent, Boakye exclusively paints black male and female silhouettes on mostly monochromatic backgrounds, creating an elegant stillness that invites our imagination to travel and connect.
Considered one of the most influential painters of her generation, Boakye career is filled with international accolades. Shortlisted for the prestigious Turner prize in 2013, Boakye’s work has a presence in several international collections like the Tate in London, the National Museum of African Art and Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., and The Museum of Modern Art in New York to name a few.
