In virtually all respects, designer Alessandro Michele has been a boon for Italian luxury label Gucci. That said, the man is a mere mortal, a human being who has his moments, like all of us. That’s what we’re telling ourselves anyway as it relates to this weird-as-hell Gucci Isle sandal that includes a removable latex sock complete with a zipper for easy on-off maneuvering.
Currently it’s available for pre-order priced at $1,190 at Nordstrom, which makes the understatement ( a little??) of the spring with the descriptive “a little something extra to your look with a streamlined take on the sock-with-sandals trend.”
The main issue we have with this shoe is that it’s offered only in a Caucasian colorway. Other than that, there is something artfully insane about it, which does provide a certain appeal. Though without inclusivity, the shoe just feels unfun and even a little frightening. For what it’s worth, a variation of this sandal was shown on Gucci’s runway though the original featured an over-the-knee latex sock and was also offered in red [which we found on Saks Fifth Avenue and added to the gallery].
Props to Gucci though because this sandal sock for certain officially knocks Topshop’s plastic-knee mom jeans off the top of the list for weirdest spring fashion item.
