Fashion as evidenced by Valentino‘s resort 2018 presentation in New York this week, is now in the full blown stage of its love affair with a style best described as a mash up of minimalist sport and flowy feminine fashion. The results is feminine-feeling track suits and dresses and skirts with a lean and mean sport flair.
It’s a look that was hatched and taken through its embryonic phase by designers like Stella McCartney, Sacai, Vetements, among others, and which entered into a second evolutionary phase driven by Alessandro “More Is More” Michele’s ascension at Gucci.
That is not to say Valentino designer Pierpaolo Piccioli’s take on the trend is an unworthy carbon copy. Au contraire, Piccioli’s version of a chic track suit is quite fetching and unique, as are his satin dresses and coordinated separates, all of which are detailed with subtle lace cuts outs, touches of embroidery and delicate pinstripes.
What’s especially nice is the collection offers a range of looks from very sporty to very feminine with almost every item an on-point interpretation of the look.
