While Supreme hasn’t confirmed it outright, it’s been widely rumored that the brand/store has plans to open a second location in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn. Adding up clues provided by @supremehustle and NYSkateboarding, we believe Supreme is opening its store at 152 Grand Street (also listed in some places as 150), located between Bedford Avenue and Berry Street.
The location is the former Koolman (aka Kool Seal Wholesale Ice Cream Corp.) headquarters, which housed ice cream trucks. Built in 1910, the Grand Street building is listed as 37.5 feet wide and 99.89 feet long. Looking at maps, there is another building directly behind the the Koolman space that opens on to South First Street. In some images of the Koolman space, the garage appears to have a front and back street entrance, meaning there is no wall between the Grand Street and South First Street buildings.
If that’s the case, perhaps Supreme is leasing both spaces as well. It’s a move that would make sense given rumors the new location will include some type of space for skaters.
We don’t know what became of Koolman, though three years ago, there was a documentary covering the story of Koolman owner Ernesto Navarro (below). In the same year, there was also coverage of a Koolman versus Mister Softee turf war in Brooklyn so perhaps in the end Koolman lost the battle. Update: According to Twitter account @samej888, Koolman is still operating with trucks dispatched from a location in Queens.
While @skidrings has leaked an image (below) of what is said to be a special t-shirt made in conjunction with the store opening, it would be “kool” if Supreme also created a t-shirt that makes a nod to the business that came before it. As for when the store will open, the consensus is fall 2017 so probably September.
