Japanese streetwear label X-Girl has tapped New York producer and musician Computer Magic aka Danielle “Danz” Johnson for images and video highlighting its fall 2017 campaign.
Synth-pop artist Computer Magic is based in Brooklyn, but has a big following in Japan, making her an apt choice for X-Girl, which is based in Japan, but has roots in New York as a label famously launched by Sonic Youth‘s Kim Gordon.
Doubling down on the concept, the single featured in the video, titled “So Small,” is from a Computer Magic and Cody Crump collaborative EP titled “Only the Hits,” an effort that taps into the distorted, wall of noise sound that characterized ’80s and ’90s New York punk music. (a la Sonic Youth).
