VLONE designer and A$AP Mob member A$AP Bari (real name Jabari Shelton) has been sued for $1 million by the woman he was shown assaulting in a video that was widely circulated on social media in July 2017.
According to TMZ, the woman filed anonymously as Jane Doe, with documents stating Bari pulled bed sheets off to expose her. She noted that both Bari and a friend recorded video of her.
She described attempting to flee to a bathroom as Bari continued yelling, “I’m going to fuck you, you are going to suck my dick.” Afraid she would be raped, she begged Bari to let her go and he threw her out of the room naked into a hotel hallway.
The woman reported the incident to hotel security and asked them to call the police. In the document, the woman said the police met with Bari and instructed him to delete the video from his phone.
She added that Bari’s attorney pushed for her to release a statement saying there was no assault.
In written statement on Instagram at the time, Bari wrote, “A misleading video clip featuring adult content and activity has been released to the public without my knowledge or consent. Comments about myself or anyone being detained or arrested are false.
“We have resolved this issue amicably among all parties as adults. We were friends before this and will remain friends afterwards. Being raised by strong women who taught me to respect everyone, I’m disappointed in the situation as well as myself and will reflect on the situation appropriately.”
As the owner of streetwear label VLONE, Bari was in the midst of a collaborative effort with Nike when the assault occurred. Nike terminated the effort shortly after the video showing Bari went viral.
