Snobette Sounds is normally a monthly recap of the top 15 singles released by women, but given March was Women’s History Month, we had to show out and share an additional ten tracks. And really, March was such a phenomenal month for women in music it’s worthy of a recap.
First off, thank you to all who came out to The Good Life dinner we co-hosted at Sweet Chick in mid-March. If you missed the event but want to vibe to the all female, throwback soundtrack (curated by moi) we rocked out to, click here.
Soul icon Anita Baker kicked off her farewell tour, an event I had a chance to see in Miami at Jazz in the Gardens. Check out her tour schedule for her remaining dates and make it your business to see her this year if you haven’t already. Her vocals were flawless and at 60, her stage presence rivals those half her age.
As well, legends Patti Labelle, Queen Latifah and Brandy came together on “Ohhh Lord” (watch the performance here) to give us something soulful just in time for Easter Sunday courtesy of “Star” on Fox. If you are into inspirational music, be sure to check out Tori Kelly’s latest “Help Us To Love“ (listen here) as well.
Other noteworthy moments include fast food chain Wendy’s (yes, Wendy’s!) releasing a bangin’ mixtape titled “We Beefin?” Anchored by an anonymous female emcee, it was full of fast food-themed bops you never knew you needed in your life. Check out the mixtape including the single “Rest in Grease” here.
Notching yet another accomplishment under her belt, Rihanna became the first female artist to hit two billion steams on Apple Music. In an effort to highlight independent artists, Spotify debuted its “Louder Together” collaborative music series, kicking things off with three women: Sasha Sloan, Nina Nesbitt and Charlotte Lawrence, who belted out “Psychopath,” which is on its way to being a big hit with close to two million streams. Spotify also partnered with Smirnoff on the liquor brand’s ongoing pro-woman “Equalizing Music” efforts by creating an API that will actively promote female musicians.
Girl power for March was definitely on a milli! Now on to Snobette Sounds for the month of March.
Although it didn’t make the top 25 tracks, Gin Wigmore’s “Girl Gang” (listen here) is definitely our theme song for the month. At the same time, The Sorority is a new girl group that we’re keeping our eye on thanks to new tracks “Srty” (listen here) and “On Me” (listen here) that dropped this month. We also appreciate Lady Luck’s “Homage” (listen here). It was released last month but it pays homage to women that paved the way in hip hop and was a perfect track to blast during Women’s Month as well.
Without further ado, the top 25 tracks this month in no particular order include the following artists: Tink, Alma x Tove Stryke, Sade, Wet, Serayah, Liv Dawson, Megan Vice, Rhys, Baum, Kota Banks, Toni Rotimi x PJ, Cleo Sol, Lily Allen, City Girls, Cherrie x Kehlani, RuthAnne, Shaylen, Vera Blue x Kodie Shane, Amber Mark, Lady Leshurr, Joy, Alex Mali, Billie Eilish, Cassadee Pope and Brooker.
Listen to the top 25 below and follow the Snobette Sounds Spotify playlist here. As always, if these aren’t enough tunes to keep you busy until next month’s installment of Snobette Sounds, you can follow my “Bad Bitch Anthems” playlist which is updated regularly here.
