Maison Martin Margiela Haute showed its “Artisinal Collection” for Autumn 2014. The label is founded on a theme of repurposing vintage fashion and other items to create new pieces that are richer for their deeper root system, all of which reflects the timing of the runway, which coincides with Haute Couture week. The label for Autumn stood out because it honored the current trend of minimalist design but elevated it through silky fabrics, often detailed with embroidery or jeweled embellishment. And while all of these items combined have the potential to come off as quite heavy and old fashioned, through deft draping and styling the collection instead came off as light as a summer dream.
