With artists look to drop new music in advance of festival season, April has become a big month for new music drops and this year it seemed there were more new projects than ever.
Multiple albums were dropped, including projects by urban favorites from the past (En Vogue and Mya), present (Tinashe and Janelle Monáe) and future (Haley Smalls.) The most buzzed about release this month was definitely Cardi B’s debut album, but notable debuts from Kali Uchis, Alina Baraz, Oshun, The Aces, Anne-Marie, and great sophomore effort by Elohim are some under-the-radar albums you should definitely check out.
Without further ado, here are my top 25 songs by women below in no particular order. Note: MCK’s “Magnets” was released at the tail end of March, but since I’ve had it on repeat the entire month of April, its definitely worth the recognition and is added as a bonus.
