NikeLab has announced plans for a activewear collection designed by streetwear heavy-hitter Matthew Williams, who is the designer behind Alyx and has put in time as a Donda creative director.
While Williams is known for creating artful streetwear, the “MMW” (Michael M. Williams) capsule will be filed under the brand’s training division, which is more oriented to the gym than the street.
According to Nike, the collection’s DNA is connected to last years AAE (Advanced Apparel Exploration) collection, which used computer design to create a garment reflecting the different ways the body responds to the environment.
Williams’ role is to introduce a human element to the design. “What computational design and computer data can offer is really the future of design,” said Williams in a press release. “It allows us to see things or take things further than we might otherwise. It helps to create a different perspective that we can build around. Working in tandem with data and emotion is super interesting.”
The 18-piece collection includes a jacket, long-sleeved top, facemask, towel and socks among other items.
The Nike and MMW collection will drop on June 12, 2018 on nikelab.com.
