Maroon World photo journal editors Cynthia Cervantes, and Travis Gumbs were married in Michoacán, Mexico at Cervantes’ family ranch on Sunday (July 8, 2018) at a super stylish event befitting the couple’s fashion DNA.
Reflecting on the big day, Gumbs wrote on Instagram, “Just had the most amazing day of my life. Words just can’t explain. Thank you to everyone who made this day so special. And thank you to my wife. She’s everything
Cervantes wore a custom Luar gown by Raul Lopez with a stunning Studio headpiece. Gumbs, who co-founded fashion blog Street Etiquette, wore a traditional white Mariachi suit embroidered with the couple’s respective Sagittarius and Gemini sun signs, which were hand-embroidered by Romina Cenisio.
DJ Venus X provided a window on the special event on Instagram where she wrote, “After the long drive to the remote mountainside where her family’s ranch we were greeted by a mariachi band and then seated for an indigenous ceremony led by a local shaman that invoked the powers of nature and its ancestors to join my two friends in marriage. Colonization and capitalism are at the root of western ideas of a marriage and I never considered that not only do you have the power to discover your lost traditions, you also have the power to rewrite them with your partner to create new culture and moments of pure love which are essential to our humanity.”
Additional guests included Saada Ahmed of Every Day People, artist Theresa Chromati, TONL co-founder Joshua Kissi, singer Maluca Mala among others.
