With the advent of COVID-19 social distancing restrictions, public gatherings big and small for the first half of the year have been cancelled or pushed out. At the moment, ComplexCon 2020 is still slated to take place in Long Beach, California the first week of November 2020 though organizers are discussing the possibility of a virtual event.
During a recent panel themed on women in streetwear hosted by Billionaire Girls Club and The Future Party, Lara Kelley, Complex vice president of brand partnerships explained, “We’re planning for all scenarios. If we cannot host ComplexCon live in Long Beach, we’ll do it virtually.
“If things do start getting better in the world and by November we are able to, this will be a great moment for the fans, for the brand to come together as one and celebrate culture. If we can’t, we have everything in place to do a virtual activation.”
Kelley noted that much of ComplexCon’s energy is driven by limited drops, which also create excitement when they take place on line. Kelley explained, “At Complex we have our own shop and we partner with brands to release products.”
ComplexCon also generates excitement through live music, which could also be made virtual whether on Instagram, YouTube or Twitch.
Whether the event takes place in Long Beach or online, Kelley concluded, “What is for sure is that ComplexCon will be different this year, it has to be the world has changed.”
