Philly-based HMN ALNS aka Human Aliens first caught our eye with its body-hugging, motocross-inspired apparel. This year, the brand expanded its offering and concept to include hoodies, dresses, t-shirts and a show-stopping collection of high heels.
Reflecting a love of both streetwear and anime, designer Phillip Mims said of the collection, “This release was actually a collection of designs from 2013-2015. I felt that I needed to release old designs that I loved before moving on. It’s hard to say what my inspirations were at that time. Of course anime, but the specifics, I couldn’t really say. I know I was into neoprene, which is what majority of the collection is, but that’s about it.
“One of favorite pieces are the hoodie patches. Even though I illustrated them, the quality that blows my mind. The other favorite would have to be the two new footwear releases because this was my first solo release. It’s a milestone for the brand.”
