Nasty Gal founder and CEO, Sophia Amoruso, has announced via blog post and video today she is stepping down from the role, to be replaced by current company president Sheree Waterson. Amoruso will stay on as president and product officer. In the video, she explains that she has spent the past two years mulling whether or not the CEO job was either one she wanted or was suited for. Amoruso adds that she will oversee creative and brand marketing. Said Amoruso in her blog post:
“My entire youth has been Nasty Gal. My entire future is Nasty Gal. This is a choice that will give our team, and our business, legs. And it will give me the freedom to feel that I’m using my talents at my best and highest. And for Sheree, this will unleash her incredible talent and leadership across an organization that has never been so ready.”
The move comes on the heels of a difficult year for the site, which was launched in 2006. The company laid off about 10 percent of its staff in the summer, the third round of layoffs in 2014.
