Here are our five top picks for the Met Gala 2015 red carpet. From left to right: Janell Monae (custom H&M), Zoe Kravitz (Alexander Wang), Cara Delevingne (Stella McCartney), Chloe Sevigny (JW Anderson), and Jourdan Dunn (Burberry). The event was thematically tied to the Metropolitan museum’s current “China: Through the Looking Glass” exhibit, which some attendees chose as an inspiration for their fashion choices while others ignored. Thematically our favorites were all edgy, sleek and often featured sporty details. Not included in our top five but tied for our No. six slot were Hailey Baldwin, Grace Coddington, Kendall Jenner and Diane Kruger. As she often does, Rihanna somehow found a way to not only rise to the occasion but also top hers last red carpet big moment by wearing a handmade Chinese cape, and because it was so above and beyond, we dedicated a separate post to it. We also included looks from Beyonce, Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez, all of who went with sheer gowns featuring lace and crystal overlays. All three looked gorgeous, but after CFDA 2014, for that loook our heart forever belongs to Rihanna and her see-through Swarovski crystal dress.
For those unfamiliar, the red carpet for the Met Gala is the only one that really matters for the fashion obsessed. Over lorded by Anna Wintour (who is said to heavily influence guests’ gown choices–mind you not everyone will receive permission to step out in a 20-foot long cape) and meant as a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum’s of Art’s Costume Institute, the event’s guest list is dominated by the it entertainers, celebrities and socialites of the moment, with the hottest ones of all accompanied by the designer of their look, all of whom are very of the moment themselves.
