[UPDATE] Dates for Kanye West‘s Yeezy Season 2 NYFW presentation have been confirmed for September 16th at Skylight Modern at 12PM at 537 West 27th Street. As for the Instagram picture, it turns out the caption (provocative much, Kim?) is simply a description of her outfit, a Givenchy dress paired with Yeezy Season 2 boots.
On the topic of his next apparel collection, Hypebeast has reported that it will be produced independently of Adidas, though West will still collaborate with the athletic brand on footwear. So that answers a couple of the questions we had below. What remains unknown are details of West’s contract with Adidas. A source has told us that West’s initial contract was relatively short term and that Adidas is currently working to extend it. The thing with West is, it’s said he tends to do exactly what he wants when he wants (shocking, right?) and thus attempting to nail him down to anything that feels permanent isn’t easy.
All that said, it would make sense for him to stick with Adidas as an athletic shoe partner simply because supply chain management, along with the manufacturing and distribution of shoes is more complicated than it is with apparel. And not only is Adidas a seasoned pro at making shoes, it already has established relationships with athletic retailers of all sizes worldwide. On the other hand, now that he’s learned the ropes with apparel he could easily set up his own label that speaks to his Louis Vuitton Don side, have more design freedom (probably Adidas doesn’t want to be in the business of making over-the-knee women’s boots anyway!) and also make a bigger profit.
Questions remain about Kayne West showing for NYFW and this morning his wife, Kim Kardashian, added fuel to speculative fire when she posted an image with a caption reading, “SNEAK PEEK – YEEZY SEASON 2” (see below). In the prior post, she showed the same dress and boots (also below) with the caption, “TONIGHT- GIVENCHY X YEEZY,” implying that we’ll first see the collection/collaboration during Givenchy’s presentation tonight at 6:30 PM EST.
The Wests are best of friends with Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci so anything is possible. One angle that hasn’t been discussed is West taking on shoe or apparel project with labels other than Adidas. The assumption has been that his contract limits outside shoe and apparel projects, but that may simply not be the case. As well, no one has ever stated how long West’s contract is with Adidas.
