Not quite as spectacular as Havana, nonetheless Rio de Janeiro and its Niteròi Contemporary Art Museum served as a more than chic enough backdrop for Louis Vuitton’s resort 2017 presentation earlier today. As designed by head creative Nicholas Ghesguire, looks were splashy, sporty and bold, including and especially the label’s all important handbag offerings, including a boombox capable of playing music.
Immediately following the event, a capsule of bags were offered for purchase on the label’s site, including three silhouettes featuring illustrations of soccer players, inspired by the work of artist Aldemir Martins and a nod to Brazil’s love of the sport.
All told, given all the issues plaguing the global luxury space, at the least one has to admire the label’s willingness to not sit back on its heels and play defense. This is a collection whose intent is to make a statement, and a youthful one at that.
Attendees at the show included the much-admired Grace Coddington, Jaden Smith (seemingly sans gf Sarah Snyder) and Zendaya, wearing an editorial-friendly dress from the label’s autumn 2016 offerings.
