The Met Gala‘s theme this year was the intersection of fashion and technology, an opportunity for traditional fashion labels to step up and grab some of the shine athletic brands have used to create excitement around their offerings. But nope, for the most part it seemed designers saw the event as more about using a lot of metallic silver to make a literal statement about machinery, as opposed to say, new fabrics or anything that spoke to the electronica that possesses our every thought. Oh well, there was still plenty to be mesmerized by. Below find some of our favorite looks and moments.
In no particular order:
Kanye West (Balmain): As always doing his own thing and making sly yet controversial statements–the coordinated blue eyes! Side note: How sweet to see his spouse make him blush with a lick of the cheek!
Karlie Kloss (Brandon Maxwell): Athletic and fun; love how she cut the hem on her dress to make it after-party friendly
Katy Perry (Prada): A beautiful head-to-toe statement, a darkly dramatic look that Katy added another dimension to with her bright personality.
Zendaya (Michael Kors): Youthful chic, bold hair statement
Gigi Hadid (Tommy Hilfiger): Sleek and sexy, in the silver category second only to Kylie
Florence Welch (Gucci): Designer Alessandro Michele’s artfully sexy look as perfectly realized by Ms. Welch
Kylie Jenner (Balmain): Dethroned her sister, at least for the night
Kendall Jenner (Versace): Sporty yet slinky, a dress that could only be flexed properly by the model of the moment
Lupita Nyong’o (Calvin Klein): Sparkling head-to-toe look with her ‘do the piece d’resistance; the future looks bright and effervescent on Lupita
Danai Gurira (Giambattista Valli): So deeply chic; and hey, a calming offset to all the blinged out in your face silverocity
