A Documentary On Female Graffiti Artists

The challenges of being a female graffiti artists are many, including issues related to safety, harassment while working, as well as territorial push back from male graffiti artists. In her upcoming documentary film, Street Heroines, Alexandra Henry covers the space from the perspective of 25 women artists, providing perspective on how they’ve managed to not just survive but also thrive and influence the space in a game that’s heavily rigged against them.

In the trailer shown here, there is commentary from Lady Pink, TooFly, Elle, Fusca, Gilf!, Danielle Mastrion, Alice Mizrachi, Magrela and Lexi Bella. Below the trailer is a clip from the film focused on Too Fly, who is one of a handful of artist who receive a special focus in the film.

Made under the umbrella of The Creator’s Project and funded in part by a recent pop-up art fundraiser organized by Henry, and a just-completed Kickstarter campaign organized by artists Bella and Mastrion, Street Heroines is aiming for a 2017 release date. Nike executive Ann Hebert today stepped down from the company days after a Business Insider story reporting on her 19-year-old son Joe Hebert's sneaker reselling business. It was subsequently reported her son aka @/west.coast.streetwear had used her credit card to purchase the shoes he then resold. 

An internal note from Nike to employees reads: Ann Hebert, VP/GM, North America geography has decided to step down from Nike, effectively immediately. We thank Ann for her more than 25 years with Nike and wish her well.”

Nike employees are not permitted to buy the brand's shoes and resell them at a higher price for profit.

Commenting on the focus on women, rising pop star Lipa, whose single "Electricity" is featured in campaign video, commented, Sharing stories of success is all part of changing the narrative, especially in fields like sports and entertainment that have tended to amplify the accomplishments of men. Women are already nailing it across the board and celebrating their achievements is exciting and empowering.
