Adidas continues to add to its collection of cool collaborations, with a rumor emerging via WWD today that the German athletic brand will be working with Alexander Wang on items to be revealed in the designer’s New York Fashion week spring 2017 presentation on September 10th. Whether or not collaborations between the two will be ongoing is unknown.
Among the many top designers Adidas regularly works with–Yohji Yamamoto, Raf Simons, Rick Owens and Stella McCartney, the addition of Alexander Wang makes a ton of sense because he’s long been known for his love of sneaker culture, plus his T by Alexander Wang line has always been themed around sport-infused casual looks.
Interestingly, while Wang included an Adidas Originals Stan Smith tribute piece in his sneaker themed spring 2015 collection, personally he has always been a Nike guy, in fact you will be hard pressed to find images of him wearing three stripes; searching through eight years of Getty images we found none. So while this can’t be viewed as a loss per se for Nike, it’s one more time as it relates to lifestyle offerings one can say Adidas is eating its lunch.
