As part of VH1’s Hip Hop Honors event recognizing the music form’s female icons, including Missy Elliot, Salt-N-Peppa, Queen Latifah, and Lil’ Kim, the program also took time to recognize Kim’s impact as a fashion icon, a well-deserved nod.
In an introductory video, stylist Misa Hylton spoke of her commitment to whatever look she wore and her willingness to take chances, describing her as “the mistress of rap.” Marc Jacobs also spoke in the video and introduced a segment with models wearing some of Kim’s most famous outfits, among them her famous sequin purple pants and coordinated pasty worn to the 1999 MTV Music Awards, plus the recreation through a bodysuit of her body painted with an all-over LV monogram print, photographed by David Lachappelle in 2004. Jessica White and Winnie Harlow were among the models who walked.
