Known for its cage dresses, skirts and corsets, Chromat took the concept in a new direction for fall 20177 through a collection inspired by life vests and flotation devices made in collaboration with outdoor company Klymit. Described as “designed for extended survival in rough, open water,” the concept included bustiers, cover ups, a maxi dress and also outerwear, a new category for the label.
The runway presentation as always spoke to designer Becca McChare-Tran’s belief in championing all women, starting with an opening performance by producer and singer Uniiqu3, who performed her single “Werk Ya Bawdy.” Through backstage signage, models were directed to walk “fast, powerful, strong, women taking over the world.”
Reflecting Chromat’s bread and butter, many of the looks were rooted in swimswear, as worn by women in wide range of sizes and colors, and every single one of them looked sexy as hell.
The distinct accessories were provided by New York-base designer Bijules, who created custom mouth chains that hung from the models’ mouths as they strode down the runway.
