Tommy Hilfiger held its runway show last night (February 10) on Venice Beach in California, a sort of pre-NYFW kick off party (only slightly painful to watch given the ton of snow that is currently falling on NYC).
The all-American label brought back the fall 2016 carnival theme of Tommyland, a party that was again led by model Gigi Hadid who is the face of the brand and also has a design-input role.
It was a return home for Hadid, who grew up near the beach, not far from the show’s location. Gigi opened the show, followed by her sister, Bella, walking to the fierce beat of Stella Mwangi’s single “Work.” Their former model and mother, Yolanda, sat front row, along with their brother, Anwar.
The collection very much spoke to what Tommy Hilfiger has always been about, representing what is here, now and popping in all-American sportswear. That translates to lots of red, white and blue pieces, denim and flowy BoHo dresses, all utterly on-point and in step with current trends.
No doubt part of the reason the show took place in sunny California is because the brand was showing a buy-now collection that included bathing suits, crop tops and summer dresses, all of which are now available for purchase on the brand’s online store.
