Santeria Themed Fashion Editorial Evokes The Beauty Of Tradition

March 29, 2017. Leave a Comment

Photographer Mario Vivanco teamed up with stylist Jimi Urquiana to create a stunning editorial for Models.com that was themed on Santeria, the Afro-Latino religion born out of the syncretism of Catholicism and  African spiritual doctrines found in various parts of the Caribbean and Latin America.

Featuring  Ajak Deng, Alicia Burke, Achok Majak, Duckie Thot and Saul Rodriguez, the models were photographed at New York’s Spring Studio. Shot in black and white, the format conveys an age old feel that taps into the ancient roots of Santeria’s history. As well, the color theme of the fashion is in step with Santeria practitioners, who wear white to convey purity, said to be necessary to be in the company of spirits.

The looks include custom pieces by Urquiana, along with pieces from Dolce & Gabbana, Jil Sander, Navy, Ellery, Zimmerman, Stella McCartney, and jewelry provided by Magdalena Frackowiak, Zana Bayne, Marco Bicego, Robert Coin, Ippolita, Armenta Kendra Scott, Meira T and Lana Jewelry.
