New York based designer Yajun Melody Lin is starting to make moves, and given her accolade-packed resume, she is definitely one to watch. With the official start up of her Yajun label, Lin kicked off a wholesale business in February 2016 by showing her fall 2017 collection at Capsule’s women’s show in New York. Through offerings, Lin adds a twists-and-turns tailored edge to the sleek and dark minimalism New York fashion is known for.
A Parsons MFA graduate honored with the 2016 Kering x Parsons Empowering Imagination design competition, Lin interned at Public School, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Acne Studios during her studies. While she now calls New York home, Lin was born in Nanjing China, and raised in Vancouver and Los Angeles by her single mother before moving to New York to attend Parsons.
She splashed on the scene is a really big way when a black puffer jacket from her graduate collection was sported by none other than taste master Rihanna during her 2016 MTV Video Music Award performance, a moment big enough to inspire Lin to start her own label.
