Netflix Releases Preview For Original Series ‘Girlboss’ Loosely Based On Sophia Amoruso

April 3, 2017. Leave a Comment

Netflix has released a trailer for “Girlboss,” an original series “loosely inspired” by Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso‘s book of the same name. The 13-half hour episodes are based on the trials and travails of lead character Sophia, who is played by actress Britt Roberson. And while the series may not be word-for-word Amoruso, she does serve as an executive producer on the show.

In the preview, Sophia is shown flipping vintage clothes on Ebay, an endeavor that crashes and burns and leads her to launch her own online site. Always a plus, RuPaul makes an appearance in the clip at 00:43.

Maybe it’s just the preview’s overly intense edit and/or the fact that Nasty Gal recently declared bankruptcy (it was purchased by a British online company and judging from Instagram comments it’s been a less than smooth transition), but something about this series seems not only forced, but comes across as a a borderline parody of how a badass, “anarchist misfit” might behave, starting with the opening scene in which Sophia tells a vintage shop owner he got played for giving her a discount on a leather jacket.

But okay, it’s only a preview so there’s definitely still hope that it’s better than it seems. And it tells the story of a young woman launching her own business built on guts and moxy and that in an of itself is a plus.

Netflix Original Series “Girlboss” will be available to stream globally on April 21.

Barcelona-based Syndical Chamber designer Sergio C Barcelona-based Syndical Chamber designer Sergio Castaño Peña shockingly jumped on Jean Paul Gaultier's Ig post yesterday, to accuse JPG of copying his concept of a naked Trompe L’oeil dress.

On Twitter, outraged fashion lovers responded with multiple posts documenting "naked" looks designed by Gaultier dating back to the '90s.

Jumping in on the backlash, JPG's official Twitter account has been reposting tweets coming to his defense. We fully concur with one poster who wrote: "Jean Paul Gaultier is a founding father and it’s sad that the youth doesn’t know his immense impact."

p.s. I added additional blocks to JPG's post 'cause we don't have nudity lattitude like he does. Same reason I didn't post examples of his earlier work.
