Gucci Takes Inspiration From Milan’s Renaissance Period For Cruise 2018

May 29, 2017. 3 Comments

Gucci dove deep into the history of Milan (its base of operations), for its resort 2018 presentation today (May 29, 2017), focusing in particular on the period known as the Italian Renaissance, a transitional period that began during the 14th century and lasted until the 16th century.

Described as the “heart of Gucci’s origins in press, the presentation was held inside Florence’s Palatine Gallery of Pitti Palace, which is filled with over 500 paintings from the Renaissance period. Guests were seated on striped canvas seats, engraved  with “Bacchus’ Song,” a reference to a poem written by Lorenzo de’ Medici, a ruler who lead the Florentine Republic during the latter half of the 1400s..

In a nod to the present, musician Dev Hynes took over the label’s Instagram Stories.

And while the presentation was a salute to the rich, cultural history of Milan, reflected not just by the space, but also the fashion, (case in point a gown “reflecting the atmosphere of Palazzo Pitti, a Renaissance-inspired gown from featuring pearl embroidered ‘Guccy'”). the collection very much continued the “more is more” design story head creative Michele Alessandro has become known and loved for.

Check out some of the first images via Gucci from the show below.
