Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky has released the video for “Raf,” a fashion-filled video featuring bars from Playboi Carti, Migos‘ Quavo, Lil Uzi Vert and Frank Ocean. Uzi and Ocean don’t appear in the video and perhaps as a result, their verses are clipped versus the original single.
As the title implies, the video is all about designer Raf Simons with Rocky, Carti and Quavo sporting multiple outfits designed by Simons, some of which were rare archival pieces provided by grailed.com.
Stylistically, it takes inspiration from Raf Simons’ debut presentation video shot at the Daniele Ghiselli Showroom in Milan, showing menswear looks for fall 1995.
Time shall tell if Rocky is overplaying his hand as it relates to his embrace of fashion versus rap, but for now it seems to be a strategy that’s generated a lot of money from fashion brands, which, if the rumors are accurate, a soon-to-be announced partnership with Under Armour.
