Louis Vuitton has announced that plans for a second launch of Supreme items has been cancelled. Originally rumored to be releasing on July 14, 2017, at a number of locations globally (see list below), Hypebeast yesterday (July 11, 2017) published a letter from Louis Vuitton, in which it said, “This collection will no longer be sold in any stores or online.”
However, the letter did say to visit an Supreme-related url for further updates, and according to GQ, further drops may be coming though not on July 14th. According to GQ, “When we reached out to client services at the brand’s Dallas, Texas, and San Francisco Louis Vuitton locations, each told us the same thing: the collection is not cancelled, but it would not be arriving by the 14th as previously suggested.”
GQ theorized that Louis Vuitton had sold through all available product and simply didn’t have any to sell. That could be possible, but it might also be that the label simply is looking for a more orderly way to sell the items, one that doesn’t involve the unwashed masses camped outside of their doors.
Louis Vuitton first dropped the collection at pop up locations in Sydney, Seoul, Tokyo, Beijing, Paris, London, Miami and Los Angeles on June 30th. While no major disruptions occurred during the sale, the hordes of people who lined up and their interactions with Louis Vuitton security were not in line with typical Louis Vuitton customer behavior.
