Cardi B‘s “Bodak Yellow” has taken the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, making her the first solo female rap artist to hold the top spot since Lauryn Hill’s single “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998.
Iggy Azalea also achieved a No. 1 hit with “Fancy” in 2014, though the song included a Charlie XCX feature.
“Bodak Yellow” overtook Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” for the top spot. The news was announced in a tweet via Chart Data.
Dropped on June 16, 2017, the single gained steam throughout the summer and when it hit the No. 2 spot in September, it received a big push from fans who played the song on repeat to drive up streams, along with the Bronx rapper’s record label, Atlantic Records, which put a big push behind ads advertising the single.
Check out a history of the song’s milestones via Atlantic below.
