New York-based singer/songwriter Shyvonne has released “Back to the Beach,” a debut 14-song dance EP rooted in the sounds of New York dance music, pulling influence from an array of ’80s and ’90s black and Latino electronic music influences, including freestyle, house and dance pop, all updated for a fresh, distinctly current sound.
All told, it has the effect of recalling a more free-spirited and self-centered New York City when party scenes mixed, mingled and partied to the break of dawn.
Commenting on the beach theme of the album’s title, Shyvonne wrote on Instagram, “‘Back to the Beach'” means so much more than just laying out in the summertime. In this crazy world, its about knowing what beauty truly reminds you of LIFE. Where do you feel God most? What can calm your mind and ease your soul, and how small we are compared to the ocean. How to have your heart broken to pieces than somehow love again like never before and dance your pain away. Many people think I OD with how often I go to the beach, but whether its Bali, or Coney Island I appreciate and need it, just the same. This project has been a cleansing I needed in many ways, and I’m so proud to finally be in a place where I am ready to share it.”
