In Burberry‘s fall runway show the 161-year old brand’s signature vintage check had a strong presence. In a time where monograms and all-over logos are once again cool, designer Christopher Bailey’s choice to put its famed plaid front and center makes perfect sense.
As part of the buy-now fall 2017 presentation, the label staged a photography exhibit space titled “Here We Are,” which featured the work of over 30 U.K. photographers who’ve influenced Bailey’s aesthetic choices in part because of their talent for providing a nuanced snapshot of British culture.
While the label shouts out its British heritage at the same times it’s made an effort to stay current with fashion’s new guard. Case in point, Rihanna was spotted in looks from Burberry’s fall collection at SZA’s free concert in New York last week, and recently Burberry released images of a trench-focused editorial starring DJ and Beats 1 radio host, Julie Adenuga (Skepta’s sister), who’s photographed in a signature trench and the brand’s new giant tote bag.
Adding some additional buzz, she was photographed by Alisdair McLellan, who’s shot for the likes of Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, but also Supreme and Palace.
