Nike Announces Air Force 1 Collabos With Acronym, Just Don, Off-White And Travis Scott

October 24, 2017. 2 Comments

Nike builds on the momentum of its highly-praised efforts with Off-White, serving up an Air Force 1 themed set of collaborations that sees the return of Off-White and Virgil Abloh and adds in respected tastemakers including Acronym designer Errolson Hugh, Don “Don C” Crawley, Travis Scott plus Kareem “Biggs” Burke repping for Roc-a-Fella.

Check out the shoes below plus launch dates and design details as explained by Nike Nike Sportswear head creative, Al Baik.

Air Force 1 ’07 Off White by Virgil Abloh: November 4th (only available at Complex Con)
“The shoe is authentic and important to all of these collaborators, and we were open to the possibility of pushing the design further. Above anything, we see some amazing stories coming to life through all of these silhouettes.”

Air Force 1 ’08 Roc-a-Fella by Kareem “Biggs” Burke: November 30th
“A classic in the world of sneaker culture, the shoe pays homage to the Air Force 1’s roots in New York City. The design is specifically inspired by the OG.”

Air Force 1 Hi Just Don by Don “Don C” Crawley: December 1st
“We worked together to decide where elements of the Air Force 1, 2 and 3 could be incorporated. The medial side of the shoe was taken from the Air Force 2 and the heel from the Air Force 3. It all rolls together nicely while still staying true to the classic Air Force 1 look.

Air Force 1 Low Travis Scott by Travis Scott: December 2nd
“When we first met with Travis, the first thing he said was, ‘I’m the acid of rap.’ It was a prompt to take a classic but then really trip it out. We brought this idea to life by making the binding around the canvas reflective, so when it hits light, it reflects various colors.

Lunar Force 1 Acronym ’17 by Errolson Hugh: December 3rd
“Errolson approached the shoe’s functionality and wanted to take the design to a new place. Staying true to the iconic white-white lens, he pushed the design radically forward with his interpretation.”

Check out an excerpt below.

Ten years in, Jean-Raymond’s star has only risen. He hangs out with celebrities (Tracee Ellis Ross, Brent Faiyaz), made a cameo on Insecure, and drives flashy cars (a McLaren 720S, an Aston Martin Superleggera, a Porsche GT3 RS). Meanwhile, his brand is nearly nonexistent.

There is no Pyer Moss boutique. The clothing celebrated on the runway was mostly not available to anybody who didn’t have a celebrity stylist to pull it for them, and company insiders complained that quality control was so uneven that at times what was produced was too flawed to be sold. Jean-Raymond sometimes missed deadlines, didn’t always pay bills, started other projects, and alienated allies. He referred to Pyer Moss as an “art project” and seemed reluctant to make practical choices. Among the fashion insiders who had cheered his rise, there has been a growing feeling that he has wasted an opportunity to build something important.

The last straw for many of his early supporters was his couture show in July 2021. Titled “WAT U IZ,” and put on in the U.S. during Paris Couture Week, it was a tribute to the various innovations that Black people have been responsible for, often without credit. The models came down the runway decked out in a jar of peanut butter and a traffic light. A lot of it wasn’t really clothing, much less couture. Even if the professional critics and other members of the fashion press seemed hesitant to publicly express their disappointment, they whispered among each other that he’d lost the plot of his brand.
