Nike continues to walk the walk on its promise to deliver more for women, revealing a ten shoe capsule of Air Force 1 and Air Jordan 1 sneakers designed by an all-female team of Nike creatives.
The 14 member team was lead by Georgina James and includes Marie Crow, Magnhild Disington, Jacqueline Schoeffel, Chiyo Takahashi, Shamees Aden, Reba Brammer, Melusine Dieudonne, Jin Hong, Angela Martin, Kara Nykreim, Marie Odinot, Louisa Page and Jesi Small.
The team was tasked by footwear director Andy Caine, whose main directive was, “Make some cool shit.” Given a two week deadline, the team of women headed to Nike’s BRS studio in London. Once there, the team broke into two groups, one for the AF1 (Dieudonne, Disington, Martin, Nykreim, Odinot, Page and Schoeffel) and the other for the AJ1 (Aden, Brammer, Crow, Hong, Small and Takahashi).
After four days in London the team produced an eye-popping collection of shoes, including an AF1 shoe that has a 12mm heel stack, the tallest ever offered in the history of the silhouette.
No pricing yet, but the collection will drop on nike.com and Nike SoHo on February 7, 2018 at 10:00 AM EST.
Check out the descriptions and shoes below.
AJ1 Explorer XX: $145: The ruched heel allows for adjustment of the shoe’s height.
AF1 Lover XX: $120: Built on a new almond last and given a bold platform stack height, this translates the iconic basketball sneaker to a velvet-lined mule with iridescent backed perforations.
AJ1 Lover XX: $130: A luxurious velvet lining, molded interior and angled collar hugs the foot with feminine edge.
AF1 Sage XX: $170: The slip-on style raises the stack height 12mm above the original and streamlines the shoe’s lines for a minimalist take on the classic.
AJ1 Sage XX: $160: Clean, sophisticated turned and stitched seams give this shoe a refined finish.
AF1 Rebel XX: $160: All the components are flipped to the back, where a corset lacing system at the heel highlights the inverted aesthetic.
AJ1 Rebel XX: $145: A medial zipper offers point of entry to this shoe, which twists the upper sideways. Use of a red Jordan logo, the lone pop of color in the entire collection, solidifies the shoe’s outsider status.
AF1 Jester XX: $130: A few misplaced Swoosh logos and a double-stacked rand grants this a fresh, tongue-in-cheek vibe.
AJ1 Jester XX: $160: This shoe playfully reimagines the icon by transforming the upper into a zippered boot and by giving the outsole an exaggerated ripple under the midfoot.
AF1 Explorer XX: $150: Protective leathers, d-ring hardware and an external tongue give this shoe a utilitarian feel.
